In children, lead exposure causes short attention span, behavior problems, learning disabilities, mental retardation, stunted growth, anemia, and delayed mental and physical development.
Lead poisoning causes premature births, high blood pressure, hearing loss, anemia, kidney damage, brain inflammation, and, if severe enough, death.
Delaminated lead-based paint is the most common source for lead exposure in humans. Others are:
soil
drinking water contaminated by corroded lead pipes and fixtures
air pollution from vehicle exhaust
some industrial pollutants
ceramic dishes and cups
old china, lead crystal, and pewter
Before you remove, scrape, or sand paint, or if you have peeling or flaking paint, have it inspected for lead.
Do not remove lead based paint yourself! An improper removal can create a much more dangerous situation than previously existed!
Ideal has trained, experienced IDPH-licensed Lead Inspectors and Risk Assessors, and a state-of-the-art Warrington Micro Lead I XRF (X-Ray Fluorescent) instrument for instant on-site, nondestructive lead-based paint detection. Ideal can also test water, soil, and other suspect lead materials and provide laboratory analysis. If results are positive, we can provide corrective action recommendations and cost estimates.
If you need lead abatement, Ideal can assist in completing your project, following all current rules and regulations. If you prefer, we can write design specifications, put your project out for bid, and monitor an independent lead abatement contractor to help ensure all your design specifications are followed.
Abatement options include:
Paint or Soil Removal
Window, Door, or Trim Replacement
Repainting with a special lead encapsulating paint
Covering walls of soil, etc.
Whether it's an Inspection, Risk Assessment, consulting, project design, monitoring, or abatement, it's our commitment to do your work in a competent and professional manner.

Ideal offers a full spectrum of lead-based paint services. These include:
Renovator
Training - EPA and IDPH approved to teach the new Lead RRP (Renovation,
Repair and Painting) Renovator Initial and Refresher Courses.
Investigative Surveys - IDPH-licensed lead-based paint Inspectors perform detailed site investigations to locate and test for the presence of lead-based paint. All inspectors are thoroughly familiar with HUD Regulations.
Risk Assessments - IDPH-licensed Risk Assessors determine the existence, nature, severity, and location of lead-based paint. Risk assessments include comprehensive analysis of paint, settled dust, and soil.
Lead Abatement/Mitigation Project Design and Development - Design and development of remediation including: removal of paint, mitigation, or encapsulation. Elements of design process are prioritizing the lead-based paint to be abated/mitigated, estimating the costs, developing project drawings and bid documents for contractor selection, establishing a project schedule, and recommending practical alternative solutions.
Lead Abatement/Mitigation Monitoring - Monitoring of all abatement/mitigation activities, including personal air monitoring, to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the requirements of project specifications. The outcome of this phase is project completion, including progress and meeting notes, letters, memoranda, and filings with regulatory agencies. Waste disposal consultation is offered to advise clients of alternative disposal methods and measures which may reduce the volume of lead that must be disposed of as hazardous.
Clearance Examinations - Clearance examinations are required under certain subparts of the HUD regulations. Elements of clearance examinations include a visual assessment, dust sampling, submission of samples for analysis for lead, interpretation of sampling results, and report preparation. All clearance examinations are performed by IDPH-licensed Risk Assessors or Lead Inspectors.
